We leave from New York with a direct flight to Providenciales…we spent a week in the Big Apple and a tear fell…It’s a unique experience, to be lived again and again…At the same time, however, we are super excited for our last ” stop” before returning to home: the Turks & Caicos islands. I was unaware of their existence (not that I was an ace in geography, mind you) until the very smart girl at the travel agency recommended this last stop for our trip.

There are around forty islands of which only 8 are inhabited. They are part of the British Empire, but the proximity to the United States (they are just over 1 hour from NY) means that the folklore and customs are halfway between the two nations. A clear example is that driving is on the left, but not all cars have the steering wheel on the right like in Great Britain… our driver in fact drove on the left and kept to the left, only he knows how he did it…

Enough of the chatter, we have stayed at one of Turks and Caicos all inclusive resorts. Never was a more appropriate choice. The resort is managed by White Villas. It’s a huge but wonderful resort, surrounded by Caribbean greenery and very importantly directly on the sea. It’s all-inclusive, but really all!

Everything was included, even the rental of diving and snorkeling equipment. We had a private chef and the results were very good food, fish, meat, and various delicacies.

On the day of our arrival we met a nice bird who was wandering around our room and that he was a little shorter than me… the fauna of those places was truly impressive… in one week we saw so many species of birds that really fascinated me!

The ocean… its wonders… on the first day I was blissfully swimming a few meters from the shore naturally equipped with a mask and snorkel when I saw it: splendid, enormous, with the sun illuminating it… a sea turtle that must have been half my size !!! A unique emotion, I had already seen it in Tenerife but swimming a few meters from her and delicately following her during her patrol was fantastic… it’s a shame that I hadn’t yet realized that the hotel had equipped us with an underwater camera in our room !! In fact, the next day I was armed: but not even the shadow of my friend. But on the other hand, I saw wonderful and colorful fish: sea cows, black and white sunfish, scorpion fish… then many others whose names I don’t know.

On the last day, we went to visit the iguana island. A small island half an hour by boat from Providenciales inhabited by these very cute little dinosaurs, which can be admired in all their beauty and photographed. We also snorkeled on the reef, for the first time in my life!! We were supposed to leave the next day, but American Airlines had the good idea of canceling our flight. Result? Thanks to the courtesy and competence of the village reception staff we booked the flight the next day, arguing at the airport with the AA staff who did not want to pay us the voucher for the extra night.

The only flaw in this heavenly holiday…which in the end turned out to be longer than expected. I can only tell you that heaven exists, and I have proof! So, what are you waiting for?
